The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit (PIMU), is organising a high-level three-day Stakeholders’ Retreat themed “From Concept to Completion: Best Practices in Project Lifecycle Management” at Jubilee Chalet, Epe. The event brings together key decision-makers and implementers from across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State, private sector partners and development stakeholders, in collaboration with the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA.

While declaring the event open, the Chief of Staff to Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Tayo Akinmade Ayinde, noted the timeliness of its theme and its alignment with the State’s strategic priorities.

“This retreat provides a unique platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation in project lifecycle management. With Lagos State’s growing population and economic ambition, we must ensure that all our projects are managed with utmost efficiency, transparency, and accountability,” he said.

The Chief of Staff stressed that project lifecycle management is not just a technical requirement, but the bedrock of sustainable development, adding that proper planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation are critical to delivering infrastructure and services that stand the test of time and meet the needs of citizens.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Chief of Staff, Mr. Semiu Kadri, emphasised the retreat’s strategic role in advancing the Lagos State Development Plan (LSDP) 2052, which aims to position Lagos as Africa’s model megacity and a global economic hub.

In his words, “this is not jus t another meeting – it is a clarion call to excellence and accountability. Projects must be people-driven, technically sound, and aligned with the vision of the State. We are here to institutionalise standards, embrace innovation and strengthen collaboration across agencies and stakeholders”.

In his remarks, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Project Implementation and Monitoring, Mr. Olusegun Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the importance of continuity in capacity development and recognised the role of the Project Management Institute (PMI) USA partnership, which has already led to the training of over 500 public officials across the State.

The Executive Assistant disclosed that the retreat builds on the success of the October 2024 project management workshop and reflects the Governor’s directive for continuous professional development in public service, adding that the State is committed to reducing project failures and ensuring that the benefits of good governance are felt across all communities.

The retreat also featured participation from Members of the State Executive Council, Heads of Agencies and Parastatals, Political Aides to the Governor, and representatives of PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, alongside expert facilitators and stakeholders.
