President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Adegboyega Fasasi, and Chief Personal Security Officer, Usman Shugaba, have been implicated in a $1.5 million bribery scandal.
According to sources cited by SaharaReporters, the duo allegedly facilitated access to the President at the Presidential Villa (Aso Rock, Abuja) for the embattled Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), believed to be linked to the bribe.
The NNPC CEO reportedly met with President Tinubu at around 11 a.m. on June 10.
The CEO is under investigation for alleged money laundering, including large transfers to the account of AA&R Investment Group, owned by Abdullahi Bashir-Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—a key opposition figure.
During interrogation by the EFCC, Bashir-Haske confessed that he had given the $1.5 million to Fasasi to facilitate a meeting with the President and expedite his case.
He also stated that Fasasi issued him a Presidential Villa access tag granting unrestricted entry and promised to liaise with the EFCC chairman to help his case—though Fasasi had no formal connection with the EFCC.
Another source noted that a similar incident occurred in December 2024, when Fasasi and other Rolex-security officials allegedly received $500,000 from a well-known Niger Delta militant to facilitate a contract opportunity.
The article outlines a troubling pattern: Fasasi has allegedly used his position to collect bribes, enabling certain individuals to gain access to the President, jeopardizing both the image and security of the office.
Despite being removed from his CSO position by the DSS Director General previously, Fasasi reportedly refused to vacate his post—possibly due to support from influential pol
itical actors.
