In a bold step toward linking maritime development with grassroots impact, the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has announced its 2025 CSR Workshop, themed “Empowering Communities Through Strategic Partnerships.” The landmark event will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Rock View Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.

Far beyond a traditional industry gathering, this workshop marks a strategic intervention by maritime media professionals determined to steer the sector toward inclusive development, using the power of partnerships and media influence to spotlight community needs and corporate responsibility.

With Nigeria’s maritime industry contributing significantly to national revenue, many observers say its surrounding communities remain underserved—struggling with poor infrastructure, unemployment, and environmental challenges. It’s this imbalance that CONMMEP’s 2025 CSR Workshop seeks to address.

“It’s time the narrative changed,” says Mr. Lod Onyeji, Project Coordinator at CONMMEP. “We can’t continue to record economic gains while host communities are left behind. This workshop is about finding long-term, collaborative solutions that empower people, not just balance the books.”

What makes this initiative stand out is CONMMEP’s unique position as a media body with sector-specific insight and the ability to drive conversations across boardrooms and communities alike.

The organization believes that media advocacy should go beyond reportage, serving as a strategic bridge between corporate actors and the real-world impact of their decisions.

The 2025 workshop is a clear manifestation of that belief—providing a platform for stakeholders to rethink CSR, not as charity, but as an investment in sustainable, people-driven progress.

Participants can expect an engaging line-up of speakers, panel sessions, and community case studies—each offering practical insight into how public-private collaborations can be designed to deliver measurable community outcomes. From health and education to environmental restoration and local enterprise support, the scope of discussion is wide—and the stakes are high.

Stakeholders from government, maritime agencies, local communities, NGOs, and corporate social responsibility units are all expected to attend. The event will also open avenues for policy influence, as outcomes are expected to feed into broader development discourse in Nigeria’s coastal and port regions.

In inviting the public and private sector alike, Mr. Onyeji stressed that this is not a passive conference, but a call to action.

“Every voice counts. Whether you’re from a multinational or a community-based organization, we need your input to shape a future where the maritime sector is not just profitable—but also people-centered.”
