Daura, Katsina State – July 16, 2025 – Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru has joined prominent Nigerians and political leaders in Daura to pay his final respects to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his life as “fruitful and fulfilled.”
Senator Basiru, a leading member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was part of the party’s National Working Committee delegation that stood in solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Buhari family, and the people of Katsina State during the solemn funeral rites.
Reflecting on the passing of the elder statesman, Senator Basiru said,
> “His passing is a painful national loss that invites deep reflection on the nature of leadership and legacy. President Buhari lived a purposeful life of service to the nation—as a military Governor, Head of State, and democratically elected President. His contributions to national development cannot be quantified.”
He noted that Buhari’s impact spanned decades of national leadership, security reforms, anti-corruption efforts, and institutional strengthening. “He served with unwavering conviction and left behind a legacy that will continue to influence Nigeria’s political trajectory,” he added.
Offering his condolences, Senator Basiru stated,
> “It was an honour to be present in Daura as we laid him to rest. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning this monumental loss. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
The late Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, surrounded by family, political allies, and citizens from across the country.
