A 30-year-old woman, Faustina Ackom, is battling for her life after her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, allegedly shot her during a domestic dispute at Anum in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Sunday.
The suspect, who has long accused his wife, a trader, of infidelity, reportedly found contact numbers on her phone that heightened his suspicions.
Confronting her while she was asleep, a heated argument ensued, during which he allegedly shot her in the left arm when the victim attempted attempted flee the scene.
Her screams drew the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and rescued her.
The suspect fled immediately after the attack and is currently on the run.
Residents suspect he may attempt to escape through Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso, and have called on police in those areas to be on high alert.
Faustina Ackom is currently receiving emergency treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
Meanwhile, an investigation team from the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command has visited the victim at the hospital as part of their, to assess the extent of her injuries and gather firsthand information.
