The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State Chapter, has announced plans to reduce the price of eggs in the state.
According to the association, the move is aimed at addressing the high cost of eggs in the market and making them more affordable for consumers.
The Lagos State PAN Chairman, Mr. Mojeed Iyiola, said the association has concluded arrangements to sell eggs directly to consumers across the 20 local government areas in the state.
He said the initiative would eliminate middlemen and reduce the price of a crate of eggs by at least ₦1,000.
He noted that the direct sale would help consumers buy eggs at the actual production cost, as against the inflated prices caused by multiple layers of distribution.
Mr. Iyiola explained that currently, a crate of eggs costs about ₦6,000 or more in many markets, but through the direct sales initiative, the price would drop to around ₦5,000 or ₦5,500.
He added that the association is working with stakeholders to create awareness and ensure a seamless distribution network for the direct sale of eggs.
He urged the public to take advantage of the initiative and buy directly from the association’s designated points in various local governments.
