On March 5, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command arraigned three individuals—Dr. Daniel Ikebuilo (72) and two women, Ifunanya Ogbonna (24) and Odinaka Okorie (27)—in Awka’s Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court. They face charges of conspiracy, child stealing, illegal deals, and child sale. The defendants pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution alleges the offences occurred between July 2024 and February 2025 in Oyi Local Government Area, specifically Nkwelle‑Ezunaka, involving two children aged six and five, who were allegedly taken from their families.

It is further reported that the six-year-old child was sold for ₦3 million, while the five-year-old was sold for ₦1.2 million to the doctor.
